Ms. Felicitas Sukaw from the Provincial Veterinary Office discussed swine feed formulation.

On July 20, 2023, the Bio+Mine team, in partnership with the Tublay Department of Agriculture and the Provincial Veterinary Office, conducted a training on organic feeds formulation for members of Binnadang Multi-livelihood Organization, a local cooperative based in Sto. Niño, Tublay. The training was a part of the Bio+mine’s social interventions, aimed to build the capacity of the local community for sustainable economic activities.

Dr. Jacquiline Yeung from the Provincial Veterinary Office shares information about swine diseases, prevention, and control.

The training was divided into two parts: a lecture session and a demonstration. The lecture covered two topics: swine feed formulation discussed by Ms. Felicitas Sukaw from the Provincial Veterinary Office; and swine diseases, prevention, and control discussed by Dr. Jacquiline Yeung, also from the Provincial Veterinary Office. They provided handouts containing vital information about the topics discussed.

Following the lectures, Ms. Sukaw from the Provincial Veterinary Office and Mr. Romeo Casilla, owner of Mines Garden in Itogon, Benguet, facilitated a demonstration on using the shredder and making organic feeds using ingredients available in the community, such as copra, soya, soy sauce, molasses, salt, probiotics, and fermented plant juice.

Thirty one members of Binnadang Multi-livelihood Organization attended the training. Ongoing support through provisions of training and equipment will be provided for the organization to enhance their knowledge and skills needed to successfully implement organic farming activities within their community.
